3 Easy Ways To Support Your Creative Friend’s Small Business

Running a small, creative business can be exhausting.

And I mean— truly exhausting.

It can be difficult to muster up the motivation to continue your craft, especially when things get tough— and trust me, things do get tough. Whether you’re facing setbacks in your personal life or indeed your business life, at the end of the day, you only have yourself to answer to— that very prospect alone can be seriously overwhelming.

But, you know what?

It’s true what they say, “I get by with a little help from my friends…

If you know someone who is pursuing their very own creative endeavours, there are so many ways you can (and should) support them, without even having to dip into your pockets to do so. That’s right— even if you can’t afford their product or service or don’t have a specific need for it right now, you can still lend a helping hand and— trust me on this— it’ll be appreciated more than you know.

Here are three super easy ways you can support your creative friends literally right now, without even having to spend a single penny.

Engage on social media.

If your friend has a creative business, it’s pretty much a given that they’re promoting their work/business on social media. Whether it be Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, or Youtube— to name but a few.

(Psst, if they’re not doing this, well, send them my way because I just wanna talk…)

One of the best (and easiest) things you can do to show your support is to like, comment and share their social media posts. Not only does it give them a little boost of encouragement from you personally, which is always nice, but it actually massively ups their engagement and helps their posts reach a wider audience.

The best thing about it? It’s absolutely free and it takes, what, a minute at most? So, don’t be stingy with your double taps—  amplify the voices of your creative friends on social media. It can be difficult to stand out amongst all of the noise, and every little definitely helps.

Spread the word.

Is your creative friend killing it at their craft? Then shout it from the rooftops!

Word of mouth is invaluable to any business, but especially to freelance creatives in search of their ideal client. You never know, one of your contacts could be their ideal client. So, if you know someone who you think could really benefit from your creative friend’s product or service, don’t hesitate to fire out those recommendations! Spreading the word far enough could open incredible new doors for your friend.

Again, it costs absolutely nothing to spread the word about your friend’s business, and only a moment of your time, so why wouldn’t you do it?

Buy them a coffee.

So, sue me. This one will cost you money. But what’s a cup of coffee compared to supporting your friend’s dream?

Maybe you aren’t in need of your friend’s product or service, but you can still support them with your hard earned money— if you want to, of course. You could take them out for a coffee and share a few words of encouragement— after all, your creative friends need your love and support more than you know.

Or, you could suggest they set up their own Ko-fi

What’s that, you ask? Well, Ko-fi is essentially a platform which allows creators to receive money from those who enjoy their content or who simply want to support them. You support with a “coffee” (a small payment roughly equal to the price of a coffee!) Isn’t that just the sweetest thing you’ve ever heard? I recently set up a Ko-fi myself, so if you enjoy my content and want to buy me a “coffee”, I would love your support.
